Checks before you apply
The applicant must show a genuine study purpose, funding and compliance with F-1 conditions. English language programmes do not qualify for OPT or CPT. Any on-campus employment is subject to separate conditions and should not be presented as a promised way to fund tuition.
Preparing your document file
Use this list for an initial review. Submission requires the current checklist from the relevant consulate or authority, taking account of nationality and country of residence.
- Compare passport details and check your eligibility to apply in the chosen country.
- Check the current form and requirements for photographs, translations and the submission method.
- School-issued I-20, SEVIS I-901 payment confirmation and DS-160 confirmation.
- Evidence of funding for tuition, living costs and travel; educational records and study plans.
- Passport and interview documents under current instructions; checks of nationality-specific application rules.

Planning time and costs
First check available appointments and the authority’s published processing times. Allow time to collect documents, obtain translations and address further requests. Confirm EUROWIZA service charges separately from government fees, insurance and other expenses. The competent authority decides the application; preparing documents does not guarantee issuance by a particular date.
Questions and answers
Can I obtain OPT after an English language course?
No. English language training students are not eligible for practical training. Eligibility under a different educational programme must be assessed separately.
When can I enter with a new F-1 visa?
New students are generally admitted no earlier than 30 days before the programme starts. Check the I-20, visa and current admission requirements.
